They Were Special Breed… — Alaafin Mourns Late COAS, 10 Others

“As citizens, we should guard jealously the unity of the nation which was won at great cost. We must also desist from divisive actions and comments that could jeopardize the unity and progress of the nation, as Nigeria’s strength lies in her diversity”

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, has stressed the need for citizens of the country to appreciate Nigerian soldiers for their efforts against insurgency as well as protecting the nation against external aggression.

In a condolence message by His Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, to commiserate with the Federal Government over the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Attahiru Ibrahim and ten other soldiers in a: plane mishap, Oba Adeyemi said this would spur the men of the Nigerian Army to give their all in the defence of the people and the country.

Alaafin who commiserated with President Muhammadu Buhari, described both the late Chief of Army Staff and ten others as
a special breed of men who were undertaking a great assignment for their fatherland, urged the Federal Government to ensure that all necessary action were being taken to address challenges facing the Arned Forces in their operations against insecurity in the country.

Said he, “the nation is very proud of our military officers and men and grateful for their dedication and commitment to the defence of the civilian population against terrorists and violent extremists. Their patriotic and courage service to the nation should not be allowed to be in vain.

” I also seize this opportunity to pay tributes to those men and women currently engaged in Internal Security Operations, particularly the ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism and armed banditry in some parts of the ccountry. Despite the global Coronavirus Pandemic, these gallant officers and soldiers have remained steadfast in the difficult task of restoring peace and security in our nation.

“As a Traditional Ruler, I honour the memory of our gallant officers and men who have paid the supreme sacrifice in order to keep the country united as one entity. The nation remains grateful for the efforts and sacrifice of the Armed Forces especially in the fight against insurgency and other internal security challenges confronting Nigeria”.

The Paramount Ruler stressed the need for the citizens to guard jealously the unity of the nation which was won at great cost.

​” The situation in the country also serves as a reminder for our citizens to desist from divisive actions and comments that could jeopardize the unity and progress of the nation. Nigeria’s strength lies in her diversity”.

Th e Federal Government, Alaafin pointed out, should also continue to do everything possible to ensure that our gallant soldiers get the weapons, equipment, welfare and logistics support they require to completely rout the insurgents and restore full security and normalcy to affected parts of the country.

“In terms of equipment and logistics, kudos must be given to the Federal.Givernment for its considerable progress since the insurgency started. There is theerefore need to continue to improve in that regard until military operations are successfully concluded,”

Oba Adeyemi who also commiserated with the Nigerian Army, families and relations over loss of their beloved ones prayed God to grant the souls of the departed officers and men eternal rest.
