Report Anyone In Possession Of AK47 — Oyo CP Warns Residents


Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Joe Nwachukwu has warned residents of the state to report any hoodlum in the possession of AK 47 riffles belonging to the Police Command iin the state.

The CP, who gave the warming while parading suspected looters that attacked the divisional police headquarters in Iseyin, explained that these rifles poses a serious threat to the community.

He appealed to residents of the State to watch out for the bandits in their various communities.

“I want to appeal to every resident and indigene to sensitize all stakeholders in residences and communities to watch out for those bandits, because you cannot stay side by side with them, they can injure, they can even kill, so, the earlier you fish them out the better.

“There is no way they can go scot free in the court of law when they are in the possession of AK 47 riffles, they call them prohibited fire arm. Anybody that is not a service personnel has no right to touch it, even the police or military officer, before they can touch it they must sign for it. The fire arm belongs to the federal government of Nigeria, it is dangerous to be in anybody’s hand, somebody that is not trained, somebody that is has not signed for it to handle it,” the CP said.

He urged the people to contact any hunter or vigilante group around them or send information to the police if they see any civilian with AK 47 riffle or rifle.

The Commissioner also disclosed that the hoodlums who capitalized on the protest to perpetrate crime burnt five divisional police headquarters and patrol vans. He added that they also went away with exhibits in the stations including the said police AK 47 riffles.
