Police Arrest Three Suspected Robbers Terrorizing Ibadan Communities, Recover Ammunition

Police operatives have arrested three suspected armed robbers accused of attacking residents and dispossessing members of the public of their belongings in Oyo State.

The suspects were apprehended following a police response to reports of an ongoing robbery around Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan, where armed men were allegedly attacking passers-by.

According to the Oyo State Police Command, the incident occurred at about 9:15 p.m. on Thursday after the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Oluyole received information about the criminal operation.

The command’s spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, said officers were immediately deployed to the area to confront the suspects and prevent further attacks.

The operation resulted in the arrest of three men identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.

Police also recovered a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a locally fabricated pistol cut to size, and one live cartridge.

The recovered items have been secured as exhibits as investigators work to establish the suspects’ alleged involvement in the robbery and other criminal activities.

Furthermore, the police said preliminary findings indicated that the suspects had robbed a tricycle driver and two passengers. They were also accused of injuring other people during their alleged operations.

The command said the information gathered so far would assist investigators in determining the extent of the suspects’ involvement in the reported crimes.

Meanwhile, the three suspects remain in police custody following the arrests.

The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation.

The police said the investigation would help clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish any additional offences linked to the suspects.
