Governor-elect of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, yesterday joined Muslim faithful to observe Jumaat service at the Ibadan Central Mosque, Oja’ba

It was hectic for Makinde’s convoy to pass through roads in some major areas in Ibadan as residents trooped out in scores hailing the governor-elect.

The Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, Alhaji Daud Akinola who had earlier received Makinde at his Ikolaba residence led him to the mosque.

Makinde, who said the honour he has for Islam and the Muslims necessitated the “Thank-You visit” which was the first to any religious centre after his victory at the polls noted that all religions and their adherents would be given due recognition in his government.

This is just as he reiterated his promise not to favour a religion above others in his administration.

“All what they having been saying that Seyi Makinde will favour a religion over the other, there is nothing like that. We will all be involved in this government. Both Muslims and Christians will not be denied their rights. We will continue to pursue programmes to advance the education of our children. For those making the statement that Seyi will not allow our children to use Hijab in schools, it’s a lie”.

Makinde said since campaigns and elections were over, he would ensure that the people benefit from the new government irrespective of affiliation to political parties.

“For those who voted for PDP and for others that voted for APC, we will all benefit from this government. We are all the same. No one should fight anyone because what we wanted God to do for us, he has done it”.

The Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiy Agbotomokekere who prayed for the governor-elect urged people to cooperate with the incoming government to enhance a successful administration.

The dignitaries at the Jumat service include the deputy-governor elect, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, a party chieftain, Senator Hosea Agboola  and wife of former Oyo State Governor, Alhaja Mutiat Ladoja.
