He said no one is safe as many unemployed youth engage in all manners of anti-social behaviors to make ends meets.

Akintunde, who said that unemployment portends grave danger for the continued existence of the state, explained that apart from efforts by government, he would attract investors to the state, who, in turns, would provide job placements for the teeming youth populace.

“Any unemployed youth is a threat to all of us. It is just a matter of time. Government establishments are populated already. Those who are there are not paid as and when due. We want others to be employed in government establishment also. But the jobs are unavailable. And our tertiary institutions have not stopped churning out graduates.

“More worrisome is the fact that those who are in service already are not trained and retrained as and when due to achieve optimal performance. When they know what they are supposed to do, the internally generated purse of the government would be happy for it. The fund can be used to provide amenities that would attract investors to the land.

“Moreover, we are going to make sure that the entrepreneurship department in the various tertiary institutions are well funded so as to let our graduating students to know that there are ways and methods by which they can stand on their own after school, with little assistance. We are in a period where artisans and skilled persons make a lot of money than salary earners. You can be educated and be self-employed after school. We cannot all be salary-earners. To achieve this, we will set up an agency for entrepreneurship development with training centres in major federal constituencies to enable accessibility. After training, there will be handsome amounts for the trainees to start on their own.”
