We Need A Sports-loving Governor — Fans Lament After 3SC Failed Promotion Bid

Fans of Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan have decried the failure of their team to clinch a spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League for next season.

The Oluyole Warriors finished third in their group after accumulating three points from three matches – losing to Remo Stars and Insurance of Benin in the Southern Conference of the Nigeria National League Super 8 Play-offs.

The fans, who expressed their sadness on social media platforms, said the club needed to work harder to return to the Nigerian topflight.

A fan Olatunbosun Ogunsakin said, “We should keep praying to God to have a good governor that loves football so that it will make our team great again. I have been following 3SC for a decade now; it’s so bad that we are not in the NPFL.”

Another fan Temitope said, “I believe one day God will hear the cry of all the beloved fans of this team and answer our prayers and make us laugh. This is not the 3SC that was the darling team of many fans in the South-West. The team need help to be back at the top.”

Another fan Segun Special believes the team were not motivated enough for the task.

“We should focus on next NNL season, this promotion battle failed because a lot of things went wrong. The people we competed against were well-motivated.

“Their state governments and owners spent a lot of money on the team for them to progress, but that was not the case of Shooting Stars,” he said.

Segun Ogunrinu said, “We should start preparations immediately early for the next NNL season. The coach, management and players gave their best but they needed government support to do some things. I believe the club will do better next season if the state has a governor who loves sports. The team needs to get more players but that will cost them some money, which can only come from the government.”
