Makinde Mourns Afenifere Leader Pa Fasoranti, Says Yoruba Nation Has Lost A Moral Voice

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has mourned the death of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing him as a towering voice of conscience whose life was marked by wisdom, courage and moral clarity.

Makinde expressed his condolences in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju and obtained by OYOINSIGHT.com.

The governor said Fasoranti’s death at the age of 100 was a monumental loss to the Yoruba people, noting that the late elder statesman had spent decades shaping public discourse and offering guidance across generations.

“Pa Fasoranti stood at the intersection of conscience and public duty, shaping the moral architecture of our politics and offering guidance that transcended generations. His transition is a historic loss for our people,” Makinde said.

He added that Fasoranti’s life spanned decades of political turbulence, cultural evolution and national transformation, during which he contributed to shaping minds, strengthening institutions and promoting Yoruba values.

“We will greatly miss him and his insights,” the governor said.

Makinde extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the Akure Kingdom, the government and people of Ondo State, and the entire Yoruba race, noting that the late Afenifere leader’s influence extended across Yorubaland.

He described Fasoranti as a man who devoted his life to community, culture and country rather than personal gain, adding that his leadership was defined by courage, discipline and a belief in unity.

The governor said the late elder statesman had left a legacy that would continue to inspire leaders, scholars and citizens for generations.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of Fasoranti’s soul and urged Nigerians to uphold the values of integrity, discipline and selfless service that he represented.
