Police Headquarters Probe Killing Of Ibadan Businessman By ‘Drunk Officer’

The Complaint Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, has announced that an investigation had been initiated to unravel the mystery behind the alleged killing of a businessman, Adeyemi Ajayi, in Ibadan.

OYOINSIGHT.COM had earlier reported that Ajayi, 32, was killed on Thursday in the Iwo Road area by policemen said to be attached to the Area Command , Agodi, Ibadan.

Eyewitnesses stated that one of the three policemen said to be on patrol reportedly had a heated argument with Ajayi, who was on his way to his workplace in company with his cousin, identified as Kayode Atanda.

The policeman , who was said to be drunk , allegedly shot at the businessman.

Reacting to the incident, the Oyo State Police Command had claimed that Ajayi’ s car refused to stop for the policemen, after which a gunshot was fired.

“A team from the Area Command , Agodi , which was on a routine patrol at Iwo Road interchange on July 10 at about 12 . 15 pm, stopped a Toyota Camry that was alleged to have refused to stop.

“In the process , one of the policemen fired a shot , which hit one Adeyemi ( Ajayi) in the stomach and he was rushed to Police Hospital , Agodi, for treatment but was later confirmed dead by the medical personnel. Investigation has commenced into thee incident,” Olugbenga Fadeyi, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo state said.

An online news medium brought the report to the attention to of the NPF CRU on Twitter.

The Police CRU thereafter tweeted, “Your complaint is hereby acknowledged and investigation has been initiated . Your tracking number is CRU803511.”
