The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State has declared that purported suspension of its chairman in Ido Local government, Alhaji Ayuba Olabanji as null and void.

Making the position of the party known, its state secretary, Hon. Wasiu Adeleke, emphasized that the party, as presently constituted, belongs to everyone and to no one.

He spoke at a meeting held in Molete, Ibadan secretariat of the party with the local government secretaries and youth leaders from all the 33 local governments of the state.

He bemoaned what he called an act of impunity and lack of respect for the rule of law and constitutionalism by a few members of Ido local government party officials who claimed to have suspended duly elected chairman recently.

He explained that the PDP as a party has processes and procedures as laid out by the constitution of the party before any important verdict could be taken. “Gone are the days of impunity in the party; anyone who engages in it will be corrected according to the constitution of the party.

“As far as Oyo state PDP is concerned Alhaji Ayuba Olabanji remains the party chairman in Ido Local government,” he added.

Adeleke also charged party officials from wards to state levels to preach and work for the unity of the party.

He declared further that the people of the state are clamouring for the return of the party to power in 2019 “particularly now that the ruling APC has destroyed the very fundamental tool for human growth and development which is education in the state as all Oyo State owned higher institutions staff are owed several months of salaries which necessitated some of them running skeletal services while others have gone on indefinite strike.”

He said the party is prepared to salvage the state from total collapse.
