Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Prof. Adeolu Akande, has joined other Nigerians and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to congratulate former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala as he clocked 71.
Akande, in a statement, said Nigeria and Oyo State are happy to have the Ogbomoso-born politician around at this point in the country’s history.
According to the Otu-born politician, who is Director at the Centre for Presidential Studies, Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, “Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala is one of the few experienced politicians who are still alive. Though he has authored a book about himself, I think people should write more about him. It is possible he does not know how much he has affected lives. We have a lot to learn about his eventful life particularly how to success as a grassroots politician and remain a darling of the people long after leaving office.
“There is no denying the fact that he has the wherewithal to turn things around anywhere he finds himself as he has demonstrated that in the past. In 1999, for example, he was one of the few opposition politicians who were elected council chairmen. His performance as a council boss earned him the deputy governorship ticket of his then party and he later became governor in 2007. Some of his legacy projects speak well of him. That Oyo is now sole owner of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, was started by him. He laid the foundation and the people of Ogbomoso and Oyo State are still thanking him for that.
“I wish him the very best as he celebrates his 71st birthday. May he continue to live longer and healthier. Congratulations Otunba!,” the statement added.
