Makinde-Olopoeyan Feud Deepens As Loyalists Tear Off Gov’s Image From APM Campaign Buses (WATCH VIDEO)
The political rift between Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and prominent Allied Peoples Movement (APM) chieftain, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, has deepened after the latter’s loyalists tore off the governor’s image from APM campaign buses at his residence in Ibadan.
The loyalists removed Makinde’s image while leaving the photograph of the APM governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, and the party’s logo intact, in a move that underscored the growing disagreement over political alignments within the party.
OYOINSIGHT.com had earlier reported that loyalists of Olopoeyan from Lagelu and Ogbomoso reaffirmed their 100 per cent loyalty to the APM chieftain amid reports that some party members had declared support for Makinde and Adekanmbi.
The latest development came during a meeting between Olopoeyan and his supporters drawn from different parts of Oyo State, including Ogbomoso North and Lagelu. The chieftain used the occasion to reaffirm his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition and launch a fresh attack on Makinde.
“Here, who we are supporting is President Ahmed Tinubu, and we are not hiding it. Who is Seyi Makinde? He is an ingrate, and I will continue to fight him,” Olopoeyan said.
He maintained that neither political pressure nor attempts to associate his camp with Makinde would change his position.
Speaking about Open Salawu, Olopoeyan said he did not know him personally until he accompanied Adekanmbi to visit him.
According to the APM chieftain, Salawu had sent someone to deliver a ram to him during the last Ileya celebration, but he did not know him at the time.
“I didn’t know him, but during last Ileya, he sent someone to bring me ram gift. I don’t know him until the day he followed Adekanmbi to my place,” Olopoeyan said.
He added that his supporters had told him about an occasion when Salawu allegedly invited them to a meeting and offered them ₦40,000.
Meanwhile, Onirese, one of Olopoeyan’s loyalists who resigned from his position in Ogbomoso, criticised Mama Fasina, whom he described as a former member of the group who had moved to the opposing camp.
Onirese described Fasina as an ingrate, arguing that Olopoeyan had done nothing to warrant her departure from the group. He cited her frequent church anniversary celebrations while arguing that the APM chieftain had not treated her unfairly.
The confrontation comes against the backdrop of a viral video suggesting that some of Olopoeyan’s supporters had moved towards the faction of the APM associated with Makinde. However, the loyalists who gathered at Olopoeyan’s residence maintained their allegiance to him.
The development has added a visible dimension to the political disagreement as alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to generate tension within the APM.
