As Ibadan high chiefs are set to start wearing their beaded from this Friday, an Ibadan Mogaji, Sulaiman Oladele, has commended the initiative.
Saying that his joy knew no bound, Oladele said Ibadanland is on the path of greatness that it is known for, adding that Governor Seyi Makinde will continue to be remembered for the fear.
Following the passage of the chieftaincy amendment bill, all Ibadan high chiefs, beginning from this Friday, July 7, 2023, would start wearing the crowns and be referred to ‘His Royal Majesty,.’
The law also grants autonomy to the governor to present beaded crowns and coronets to chiefs in the state.
It would be recalled that the elevation of Ibadan high chiefs to Obaship status was sequel to the recommendation of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who is the prescribed and consenting authority.
Oladele, who is optimistic that Ibadanland would witness more development by the elevation commended Governor Seyi Makinde and Ọba Olalekan Balogun for the courage.
He also thanked Engr Dotun Sanusi, one of his colleague-Mogajis for rallying round all that matters in Ibadanland to make it a reality.
“Ibadan is in for a good time with this elevation and I am particularly happy about the development. It is something someone like me has looked up to. I know, for a fact, that this will bring meaningful development to Ibadan. That was how it started in Lagos and I make bold to say that people would see the gains not long after.
“While I congratulate our people for this development, I salute the rare courage of Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan, Ọba Olalekan Balogun for this feat. History will remember them for good. I also like to thank one of our colleagues— Engr. Dotun Sanusi for his role in ensuring that the elevation is seamless,” he added.
