Barring any unforeseen circumstance, the 68 local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs) in Oyo State will have supervisory councilors, secretaries and chief of staffs (CoS) to the chairmen.
Top government officials who didn’t want name in print told OYO INSIGHT that each of the 33 LGAs and 35 LCDAs will have 6 supervisory councilors, a secretary and CoS each.
It was further learnt that the names of the appointees have been submitted and will be announced this week.
This is coming less than 2 months to the expiration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi administration and more than a year after the new council bosses resumed office.
One of the sources told OYO INSIGHT said the appointees should have started work late last year but a ‘powerful woman’ laid his hands on the list and started removing names, replacing it with names of her loyalists.
”The party leaders had nominated people to fill the positions only the woman to disrupt the process. That partly caused the delay. Ordinarily, chairmen appoint officials to work with them, though with the recommendation of the governor.
“Imagine if these people had been appointed last year, it would have assisted our party greatly; the council chairmen wouldn’t have had a lot of loads on their necks. We may not have lost the governorship election,” another source added.
OYO INSIGHT also gathered that council chairmen earn a little over N500,000 while each councilor goes home with N108,000 monthly. The salary structure of the new appointees is yet to be known as at the time of filing this report.
“Ordinarily, the supervisory councilors are to ratify all what the council chairmen do,” the source added.
