A senior advocate of Nigeria and Bamofin of Ibadanland, Chief Adeniyi Akintola has congratulated Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu who he described as “our darling wife” on the occasion of her 60th birthday.
In what could be described as a veiled reference to the crisis that engulfed the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akintola, who was a governorship aspirant on the platform of the party, said “You chose to be yourself whilst I and many others decided to travel to “Afghanistan” and playing the Ostrich.”
OYO INSIGHT recalled that Sunmonu and other aggrieved party stakeholders, who later formed Unity Forum, broke away from the party to join African Democratic Congress, ADC, and Action Democratic Party, ADP.
Akintola, who spoke with OYO INSIGHT on the phone, said he and Sunmonu’s husband, Chief Dele Ashamu, were classmates at the University of Ibadan.
To our “Darling wife” Monsurat, the Rt. Hon. Speaker and a Distinguished Senator, I say happy birthday and many happy returns.
Monsurat, I say here boldly that you are a shinning star, an amazon and a woman of steel, courage, discipline and absolute faith in God. Like the biblical Deborah, you saw our political predicaments coming long before now.
You warned, made entreaties, cajoled and even begged on your two knees, but alas, we listened not to your voice of wisdom. You were right and I was wrong and I am admitting that publicly. You chose to be yourself whilst I and many others decided to travel to “Afghanistan ” and playing the Ostrich. Of course, our stupidity naturally has its consequences and when the consequences came, “eniti ora na jenbe” and we are all bearing the brunt.
Stay focused my sister on your lane of principle as you grow younger gracefully and don’t forget to share the cake to my doorstep after all I am your Egbon for (2) whole months.
