Chairman of the Water Corporation of Oyo State, WCOS, Elias Adeojo was, for many hours, guest of the Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday.

Top EFCC source told OYOINSIGHT.COM said the invitation and interrogation which lasted many hours cannot be unconnected with the abandoned water project initiated during the administration of late former governor Abiola Ajimobi.

The incumbent administration of Seyi Makinde, it was learnt, had refused to show sign of commitment to the projects as contractors handling the project haven’t been paid money due to them.

The projects included Ogboro Water Supply Scheme, Sanusi Water Supply Scheme, Owode Water Supply Scheme, Pade Water Supply Scheme and Alabata Water Supply Scheme awarded at about a billion naira each 5 years ago.

It was learnt that each of the contractors was mobilized to the tune of 30 per cent each.

All the contractors, a source told OYOINSIGHT.COM had done up to between 35 and 55 per cent and needed to be paid by the government.

“Two weeks ago, after a petition to the EFCC over the abandoned projects, the contractors were arrested and detained. And it was during the interrogation that they discovered government’s inability to pay them that was responsible for the delayed work. They were all released on bail.

“So on Monday, the EFCC officials swooped on WCOS premises, whisking Adeojo away in the process. He was later released around 10 pm Monday night but 2 brand new Hilux vans belonging to the project contractors but being used by WCOS were impounded by EFCC,” multiple sources from both EFCC and WCOS confirmed to OYOINSIGHT.COM.

”It was after the inspection of some of the projects that they decided to go for Adeojo who had allegedly ignored their invitation earlier. They had wanted him to come say WCOS’ side of the story.

This newspaper’s attempt to speak with one of the contractors proved abortive. He was about explaining the matter when he said he would get back to our reporter. He hasn’t done so as at the time of filing this report.

OYOINSIGHT.COM hasn’t been able to get in touch with Adeojo as at press time.
