The Bayo Adelabu Foundation, owned by a former gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Chief Bayo Adelabu, has decided to complement its relief materials with minimal cash transfers to residents of Oyo state as additional palliatives in this difficult period.

Even though during the month of March, the foundation distributed preventive and relief items ranging from Hand sanitizers, nose covers and food items to some of the residents of the state.

It, however, discovered that social distancing and logistic issues cut off a number of residents from benefiting from the program.

As a result of this, the foundation has decided to embark on a second phase to complement its earlier efforts with token cash transfers to a larger population to support the government efforts. The cash support which started last week will run through this new week.

In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, one of Bayo Adelabu’s media Aides, Comrade Femi Awogboro stated that despite the fact that this second phase which will gulp about N25million, it may not even touch every individual due the large number of indigent and unemployed population of the state.

He, however, noted that nothing less than 7,500 residents across the 33 local governments and 35 LCDAs in the state will benefit from the program and this will go a long way to alleviate the suffering of the poor masses during this difficult period.

He stressed further that in a bid to ensure fairness and to enable the distribution to have a wider coverage, specific amounts have also been set aside for allocation to selective radio stations which include but not limited to Splash FM, Fresh FM, Space FM, Ajilete FM, and BCOS for distribution to call-in listeners on their various programs. This will, however, continue on a weekly basis until the sit at home period is over.

In addition to this, reasonable sums have also been set aside as bulk donations to the Muslim community via NACOMYO as well as the Christian community via the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to enable them procure relief items to support their respective members in need.

He added, “it is imperative to strictly adhere to social distancing rules, regular use of hand sanitizers and compliance to personal hygiene rules during this period to protect us from this epidemic disease in our land”.

“Oloye Bayo Adelabu has reiterated his commitment to continue to assist the public through his 18years old foundation and alleviate the suffering of the masses by this humanitarian gesture”.
