A Board of Trustees (BoT) member of Oyo Progressive Front (OPF), Mogaji Ademola Adesina Afolabi, has called on all senators-elect from the 36 states and the FCT to elect Sen. Teslim Kolawole Folarin (APC, Oyo Central) as Senate Deputy President because of his starling qualities.
Afolabi, a fronline activist and prominent politician in a release signed on behalf of the group said yesterday that this is a payback time for Folarin who he described as a ranking senator, a highly principled legislator and a trustworthy lawmaker who fought for the survival of democracy in the National Assembly and Nigeria at large during President Umar Musa Yar’adua’s administration.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari needs the support of the National Assembly to actualize his lofty ideas and this could only be achieved with the likes of Folarin at the helm of affairs in the Red Chamber.
“Of course, Folarin was the Senate Majority Leader when President Umar Musa Yar’adua became incapacitated as a result of infirmity.It is on record that Senator Folarin helped with his sponsored motion which rested on clause of necessity to resolve the logjam in the governance of the nation due to long absence of President Yar’adua when he traveled on medical vacation abroad and due to his failure to handover to his Vice President to hold forth as Acting President.
“Folarin was never found wanting and that is why his people give him the mandate again. He was among the Senators that sponsored the highest number of bills during the 6th National Assembly; he is the right man for the job of the Senate Deputy President.
“We should collectively support him to get the seat because he knows the workings of the legislature, he knows the workings of government and the system needs someone like him to deliver,” Afolabi posited.
Given the ugly experiences of the 8th Assembly where the Senate worked at cross purposes with the Presidency, the time is ripe to move our nation forward by electing credible, experienced and men of integrity into leadership of the Senate.Senator Folarin is tested and trusted and will deliver well,if given the mandate to serve as Senate Deputy President.
The group added that among other elected Senators from the South West, Senator Folarin stands out having studied his comprehensive blueprint which encompasses his strategic plan, agenda and vision for the 9th National Assembly.
