Zakat Can Help Reduce Insecurity, Use Social Media To Propagate Islam… — Scholars Tell Muslim Youths

Muslim youths have been enjoined to use social media for Islamic propagation and desist from causing commotion and disunity among the Ummah.

The young scholars should equally utilize social media to teach religious rites such as practical ways of performing Hajj, purification and how to observe five daily prayers.

These are some of admonitions of a Professor of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Ibadan, Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji while delivering the keynote address at the ongoing National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations, NACOMYO 10th Southern Zone Dawah Retreat Oyo 2025 in Ibadan.

The theme of the retreat is “The Human Mind: Between Mundane and Spiritual Felicity: Youth on Call”.

Raji reiterated that it was imperative for Muslim youth to use their knowledge and available facilities for the progress of Islam and uplift the Ummah.

Speaking on human minds, Raji reiterated that the elderly have the responsibility of mentoring and guiding the youths appropriately for peace and better life for all.

“Youths are always on call; the elderly should be good role models by helping them with mentorship and guidance – they should shun self-interest”, he counseled.

According to Raji, ” prioritizing services to humanity and seeking knowledge for Allah sake were better for youths to attain global recognition and accolades than considering mundane pursuits at the expense of humanity and spirituality”.

In another lecture titled”A World Without Islam; Myths and Realities”, a renowned Comparative Religion preacher, Dr Daud Amoo-Alaga emphasized that Islam provides solutions to all spheres of human endeavours.

Amoo-Alaga recommended Zakat, which involves wealth redistribution as a panacea to insecurity bedeviling Nigeria, stressing that poverty gave impetus to banditry and insurgency.

In a remark, a retired Professor of Adult Education, University of Ibadan, Rasheed Aderinoye harped on the significance of education for restoring human dignity, urging Muslims on proactiveness and prayers for Palestinians.

The Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abubakr Agbotomokekere represented by Mogaji Hassan Onisiniyan lauded NACOMYO for its efforts in Islamic propagation and encouraged the association not to relent on its legacy of activism for Islam.

In an address, the Southern Zonal Chairman, NACOMYO, Imam Idris Yusuf-Adio remarked that the theme of the 10th retreat, likewise the previous ones centred on leadership, socio-economic stability and youth empowerment.

Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barr. Abduraheem Adebayo Lawal represented by his Special Assistant on Administration, Alhaji Zakariyya Kunle-Sanni urged the youths to seek guidance from Allah and harness their potential for positive change in the society.

Goodwill messages were delivered by prominent Muslim personalities including the Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Dr Nureni Adeniran represented by Mr. Yusuf Abideen, the Senators representing Oyo Central and South Senatorial Districts, Dr Yunus Akintunde represented by Hon. Adigun Hamed and Barrister Sarafadeen Alli, the Ameer, Muslim Student Society of Nigeria, MSSN, Dr Moshood Kolawole represented by the MSSN Coordinator Oyo Area Council, Ustaz Hussain Adepoju, the Iyalaje Adinni of Oyo State, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde and the Iya Adinni of Yorubaland, Alhaja Sekinat Adekola represented by Alhaja Sekinat Abimbola and the Ameerat, Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN, Dr Latifat Dairo.
