A group within the Oyo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), The Democratic Front (DF), has lambasted the Oyo State governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, over his invitation to Nyesom Wike, Rivers State governor, to commission projects in the state, on Friday, 3 March, 2023.

OYOINSIGHT.COM recalls that a statement from Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, had indicated the state’s invitation to Wike, to commission the Dr Omololu Olunloyo Airport Road, Aviation Fuel Tank Depot and Dr Omololu Olunloyo Park, all in Ibadan, the state capital.

According to Olatubosun, the projects are part of the State Government’s quest to boost its economy and create accessible roads within the state, asserting that while the airport road and the park were executed by Kopek Construction Company, the Aviation Fuel Tank was in collaboration with Bovas and Company Limited.

In a swift response, Femi Oyekanmi, Convener of the group, lampooned the governor, asking why Governor Wike, a man whose intransigence, led the Oyo State chapter to the slaughter slab, culminating in huge losses in the 3 Senatorial Districts and 9 Federal Constituencies, with hopes fading in another 2 whose election had been declared inconclusive, was the appropriate VIP to invite at this mournful moment.

Noting that his group had thought Gov. Makinde’s meeting earlier in the week, with National Assembly candidates, wherein he took responsibility for their loss, and called for forgiveness, came from a contrite heart, he added that with this latest invitation, it has become apparent that the governor cares about no one, but himself.

“Governor Makinde’s membership of the G-5 in the first place is an aberration, and unlike the altruistic front of desiring power shift to the South, was solely a sore loser’s response by Gov. Wike, of his loss of both the presidential tand vice presidential slots of the PDP.

“Despite being the ruling party in the state, Governor Makinde successfully led our party to defeat, and instead of being sober, to allow frayed nerves to calm, and losers come to terms with their unfortunate situation, Gov. Makinde, in his characteristic selfish style, has deemed it fit to invite Wike to come over and gloat over their group’s success in destroying the presidential ambition of our candidate, HE Atiku Abubakar.

“We expect, in conformity with his garrulous nature, for Gov. Wike to come over to Ibadan and lecture us on why our party lost, and how as e dey pain dem, e dey sweet us. We know, for a fact, that neither Wike, nor Makinde, nor any of the other members of the G-5 feels the pain we, members of our party, whose friends, colleagues and leaders, have been made to waste huge resources, just because one man’s ego had been wounded, feel.

Calling on members of the PDP to stay calm, despite this seeming provocation, Oyekanmi maintained that as experienced politicians, their cards remain close to their chests, and they know what to do, during the Governorship/State Assembly polls of 11 March, 2023.

“Gov. Makinde shouldn’t think he’s the only one adept at playing games; we wish to invite him to note, that as politicians, we all know the game, and will play it excellently in the coming state polls,” Oyekanmi added.
