Oyo state government has ordered traders, mechanical workshop owners and those operating any form of business beside Alakia airport road interchange to old Ife road to vacate the road side by weekend.
According to GOALPOACHER, the commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development and officials from the ministry of environment and natural resources gave the warning today during an inspection tour of flood plain areas around Alakia road interchange.
Speaking after engaging some of the business operators and mechanic workshop owners beside the road, the Permanent Secretary, ministry of environment and natural resources, Dr Bashir Olarenwaju explained that the state government had issued an eviction notice to them since three months ago, noting that government is concern of their safety along the road and the need to improve the aesthetic values and hygiene along the road particularly because of its proximity to the airport.
Dr Olarenwaju who frowned at the indiscriminate dump of refuse on some of the flood plain areas around the interchange, stressed that the state government had prohibited such act and remained committed in ensuring a healthy state.
The Commissioner equally disclosed that the ministry had made alternative provision for those engage in business activities along that axis, adding that the suitable location would have basic social amenities to make their business atmosphere conducive.
Some of the traders and mechanic operators agreed that the intention of the eviction was for their well being and promised to comply accordingly.
