The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State, Engr Seyi makinde has assured the people of the state that he will not tamper with the existing 68 local government councils but rather make them more functional.
In a statement from his campaign organisation and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Makinde said that instead of cancelling the newly created local government areas, he will make them more effective through better funding because they are closer to the grassroot and capable of bringing development faster to rural dwellers and urban masses.
He admitted that there is an urgent need to engage local government workers more on areas of needs to enhance better efficiency, saying that under his administration, it will be possible for an LG worker to rise to the position of a Permanent Secretary.
Makinde reminded the Nigerian Labour Congress of the meeting he held with their representatives early in January and promised not to renege on his undertaken to be sincere with them and to have them select one of their own as Special Adviser on Labour Matters.
