A former lawmaker representing Oyo East/Oyo West in the State House of Assembly, Muhideen Olagunju Olagunju, has thanked the chairman of Oyo East local Government, Peter Oluokun, for exposing Governor Seyi Makinde’s failure to release local government allocations.
Olagunju, in a statement made available to OYOINSIGHT.COM, noted that the volume of funds allocated to Oyo East local government alone by the federal government over the past six years is huge.
“You will be amazed about the volume of funds allocated by the Federal Government to Oyo East LG in the last 6 years. I commend the Chairman of Oyo East LGA for having the courage to expose the non-release of statutory allocations to local government councils by the Governor of Oyo State.
Our governor is not only averse to local government autonomy, he also starves the Councils of funds needed for development,” Olagunju wrote.
He explained further that he is convinced the Federal Government is doing its best but there’s an urgent for need for this to be balanced with “a commensurate effort by governors… to foster meaningful development.”
“The governor-emperors in our states are our greatest enemies. There may consequences for the Chairman that wrote appeal letters for funds but he is being financially starved! That should be main gist of any discussion on the matter,” he added.
