Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency, Hon. Adedapo Lam-Adesina, has commended the people for coming out to show love to him during the main and supplementary elections that ended yesterday.
Though incumbent Hon. Abass Adigun was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the winner, Lam-Adesina said it was imperative he thanks the people for the rare support they showed him all through the electioneering process.
He, however, bemoaned the way violence and suppression of voters marred the poll which only took place in just few units.
According to the former lawmaker, “I, as a matter of fact, know that nothing is worth the blood of anybody. Before and after the election was declared inconclusive till yesterday, there was nothing that wasn’t used to suppress voters. People were terrorized and provoked just because they wanted to express their fundamental human rights.
“I am not condemning this because the election didn’t go in my favor but as a young progressive and democrat, we should have passed this stage, I believe. Election is about winning and losing. The previous elections that I lost, I congratulated the winners and moved on. When we make election violent, those to be led are at the receiving end. We should stop that.
“Despite all these, I want to thank the people for staying put, for not succumbing to oppression. I am proud of you. I will never forget you.
“Whatever might have happened, I will continue to be committed to your development. Be happy, don’t feel let down. God has a way he does his things.
“As a democrat, I have put the result behind me but that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t study the result for future use,” he added
