Rehabilitation Of ‘100-year’ Old Olubadan Irefin Palace Begins

Built over a hundred years ago, the Irefin Palace in Ibadan is set to wear a new look as its ongoing rehabilitation is set to be completed later this year.

This was revealed after a meeting between members of the Olubadan Irefin Royal Family of Oke Offa Babasale Area, Ibadan and the Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi.

Speaking on behalf of the royal family after the meeting, which was the third on the rehabilitation of the Palace, the family’s heir, Prince Aderemi Irefin expressed satisfaction at the level of commitment and quality of work the Consultants handling the reconstruction process have showed so far.

He also lauded Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi, who is the Adviser on Tradition and Culture to the Olubadan Irefin Royal Family and the Consultants on Tourism to the Family, for his commitment to the take-off of the rehabilitation project and his constant supervision of the project.

When completed, the Olubadan Irefin Palace will  be turned into a museum and a world-class tourists centre.

According to the consultants, the rehabilitation of the Palace is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

The Palace was home to the late Iba Irefin Ogundeyi who was the 20th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

He reigned for two years between 1912 to 1914.
