Oyo Global Forum, OGF, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, over the controversial movement of the Police Mobile Squadron from Oyo to Ago-Are by the state government.

This was revealed by the secretary of the Forum, Hassan Adebayo, in a post on his Facebook page on Monday evening.

He wrote, “This afternoon, we submitted a petition to the Inspector-General of Police at the Edet House (Force Headquarters) in Abuja, on behalf of Oyo Global Forum regarding the controversial sitting of the Police Mobile Force headquarters in Oyo State.”

“The petition referred to HM Alaafin’s request, and the official signal mentioning Oyo Town as the headquarters of the PMF in Oyo State and then apprised the IG of the fact that his order (as contained in signal) is yet to be implemented in Oyo State as directed. We included the Town’s preparation to host the Squadron, attaching a plan of the site intended for that purpose. We also referred to the state of security in Oyo, with news reports on several cases of violence involving gangs attached.”

OYOINSIGHT.COM had earlier reported the social media outrage that followed the alleged move of the Police Squadron in Ago-Are even though it was initially marked to be ‘sited’ in Oyo.

He added, “This is just another step in OGF’s efforts on the matter. Several weeks before now, OGF had got wind of the development and mounted moves, which involved engagements with senior police officers, community leaders and in fact HM the Alaafin, whom we (through a senior member of the Forum) advised to write the IGP again.

“We are also exploring engagement with the Governor of Oyo State, HE Mr Seyi Makinde, whom we are willing to listen to and discuss with as the Chief Security Officer of the state. This is based on our long-held principle of negotiation and seeking common ground to make headway in a manner that works for the common good of Oyo Town and the state at large.”
