Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, on Saturday, at the Durbar Stadium, Oyo, promised the people of Oyo State, a better deal, upon assumption of office come 29 May, 2019.
Lanlehin, who spoke at the ADC Rally in Oyo Zone, wherein party faithful from Atiba, Oyo East, Oyo West, and AFIJIO, and a mammoth crowd of supporters attended, maintained that “the welfare of the people, highlighted in projects which improve their lives, prospers them and enhances their living standards is a people’s government which he intends to run”.
Senator Monsurat Sunmonu in her own words, described the ADC as the masses’ party, and maintained that ” irrespective of the antics of the opposition, the ADC will win the coming polls in the state. All projects of the party, he said, would continue be tailored to meet the people’s aspirations.
Lanlehin, had earlier paid homage to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who acknowledged Lanlehin’s rich heritage, being the son of one time Action Group treasurer, Chief Samuel Owoola Lanlehin, saying: “if our people repay children on account of their parent’s good deeds, then Senator Olufemi Lanlehin shouldn’t struggle to campaign at all, as his father, Chief S.O. Lanlehin, was one of the closest associates of Awolowo, and a true progressive to the core”.
Lanlehin intimated Oba Adeyemi formally of his governorship bid, asking that the eminent monarch blesses his bid. In his words; “we appreciate the Alaafin wholeheartedly, as the King of the Yorubas, and we’re here to seek his blessings and support, because we know his knowledge is deep, and that he’ll be a good support system when we get to government”.
“Having garnered experiences in all three arms of government, as a lawyer, senator and commissioner cum special adviser, representing the judiciary, legislature, and executive respectively, I must say without being immodest, that I am hugely qualified for the position of governor”, Lanlehin said.
Advancing reasons for contesting, Lanlehin reiterated that as friends of the masses, “we’re intent on making lives better for our people. Once sworn in, every anti people policy in Oyo State, like payment of tuition fees in public primary and secondary schools, security levy, and all sorts will stop. Relocation of butchers to a central abattoir will also be rescinded, as we’ll build neat, hygienic and modern abattoirs in every major market”, Lanlehin added.
Speaking further, the ADC candidate assured the people that a government to be led by the ADC would reintroduce farm settlements fitted with modern facilities, surrounded by cottage industries, as a means to revolutionize agriculture in the state. “We’ll build silos for storage of our excess agricultural produce, and improve infrastructure throughout the state”, as the rapid development of Oyo State is top on our agenda.
Maintaining that while talk is cheap, and that politicians, being sweet mouthed persons are usually full of promises, Lanlehin tasked the electorate to consider the antecedents of all those making the huge promises, saying “as Senator, our own achievements are there for people to see, and our mark remain indelible in the people’s hearts and minds”.
Oba Adeyemi while responding, urged Lanlehin not to forget all promises made now, as not only was he being received at the Ogun courtyard, which is a sacred place, all that transpired during the visit was also being recorded for future references”. He later prayed for the success of Lanlehin’s governorship bid, that of Senator Sunmonu, and all candidates on the platform of the ADC, saying as ” father of all”, he’ll continue to support worthy causes aimed at bettering the lives of the people.
In company of Senator Lanlehin at the Alaafin’s palace was his running mate, Alh Saheed Adejare Alaran, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Senator representing Oyo Central and ADC Senatorial Candidate, Senator Gbenga Babalola, Oyo State ADC Chairman, Alh (Dr) Ahmed Ayinla, Alh Wasiu Emiola, State Secretary, members of the state executive, and candidates of the ADC from the Oyo zone.
