Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief Adebayo Adelabu has called for provision of effective road network, dedicated fire service station, police post and other basic amenities in Araromi Auto Spare Parts Market to forestall re-occurrence of fire incidence.
Chief Adelabu made this call during a visit to the popular market in Ibadan where hundreds of shops and properties worth hundreds of millions of naira were destroyed by fire in the early hours of Saturday.
Chief Adelabu, while addressing the market leadership and other traders described the incident as unfortunate one but promised to provide necessary logistics within his capacity to support the rebuilding of the market and liaise with the government at both the state and federal level through the CBN/Federal government SME fund to provide succor for the victims of the incidents.
“It is unfortunate that since my childhood when i grew up to know about this market, which is just beside my primary school at Agodi Gate, there has not been any meaningful impact of government infrastructural intervention at the Agodi gate spare parts market despite its economic contributions to the state and even the south west at large. The market has been neglected for too long. This is the time to give priority to the provision of basic Infrastructural amenities to this historical and important market.
“I had once hawked at the Agodi gate spare parts market and I knew the condition of the market but it’s a pity that nothing has changed since I knew the market” Adelabu said.
Chief Adelabu promised to work collectively with relevant stakeholders especially the state government to facilitate SME grant for the Agodi gate spare parts traders through Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal government. If this could be done for the immediate past administration through my intervention at the Central Bank of Nigeria, nothing stops us from doing this for the current administration.
The 2019 Governorship Candidate of All Progressives Congress also pledged his support to provide considerable amount of cements, blocks and other materials to support the reconstruction of the affected shops with immediate effect.
In his remarks, the Baale Araromi Agodi Gate spare parts market Alhaji Waheed Adegoke commended Chief Adebayo Adelabu for identifying with them during this time and the support promised them.
The Baale of the market Alhaji Waheed Adegoke and the President of the market Mr Moruf Ikire appreciated Chief Adelabu for all he had done for them in the past and for his promise to use his connection and influence to provide necessary support for the traders at the market.
