In a bid to further strengthen the acceptance of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo state ahead of 2023 general elections, an Ibadan-born, U.S-based chieftain of party, Honourable Oludamilola Oluwole ALA has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for wooing the likes of Egnr. Joseph Tegbe to the party.
ALA stated this in a release made available to journalists in Ibadan on the recent development in Oyo PDP
According to him, Tegbe’s defection will add more values to the voting pattern in Oyo south senatorial district and also contribute to the development of the district and state at large.
“Undoubtedly, the name Joseph Tegbe, JT needs no introduction as he has contributed greatly to development of both the public and private sector.
“Joseph Tegbe as a partner and head, advisory services of KPMG has deep experience in servicing various clients across the public and private sectors of the economy, delivering value-added results with industry leading practices.
“Joseph Tegbe has served as lead engagement partner on strategy advisory projects for various organizations and institutions with the responsibility of helping to establish and reposition the entities on the path of sustainable performance and Operational/business efficiency,” ALA said
He urged the people of Oyo south senatorial district to drum support for Engr Joseph Tegbe to use his wealth of experience to fast track meaningful development to the nine local governments in Oyo south.
ALA also called on Makinde; PDP deputy national chairman south, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja to allow primary election to elect qualified candidates for both state assembly and national assembly in Ibadan South East local government and in Ibadan Southeast/Northeast federal constituency.
This, according to ALA, will further promote internal democracy in the council area and give adequate representations to the people through effective legislation.
“Without mincing words, Ibadan South East Local Government is an interior of Ibadan which deserves sound and intelligent representatives who would fast track development to the local government but unfortunately the two state lawmakers representing the constituencies underperformed especially Hon. Segun Popoola of constiuency 2 which, he said, there’s no basis for giving him the second term ticket of the PDP.
“If they have done well for the members of PDP and the public, their good works should speak for them and not by giving money to leaders for tickets.
“This is constituency where come from and there is no impact of Hon Segun Popoola in terms of making laws that has direct impacts to state constituency. The leaders should allow primary election to hold for constituencies one and two.The sterling performance of Governor Seyi Makinde can be felt and seen by the public. What have they done to deserve second term tickets?,” ALA said.
ALA enjoined Governor Makinde, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, Barrister Muyiwa Makinde, Chief Bayo Lawal, Alhaji Tiamiyu Abidikugu, Alhaji Dauda Yusuff, Mrs. Funmilayo Arulogun, Chief Hosea Agboola Hallelujah,Hon Inakoju, Hon Akeem Ige ,Baba Olaoti,Pa Adegoke, Baba Atoyebi, Mogaji Abass Oloko, Hon Dare Adeleke, Mr Kunmi Adesina, Baba Oloda and all notable and respected leaders to accord priority to the issues raised by members of the PDP in respect of selecting candidates for the party.
“We need popular aspirants who have influence across board; candidates that relate with all members of our party as politics is local, not just aspirants who only relate with the leaders. Politics is a test of popularity and whoever has been in the office more than 2 years should be ready for the primary.
“However, in the case of federal house of representatives, it has been rotational between Ibadan North East Local Government and Ibadan South East local government since 1999. I believe with rotational method and equity, it’s the turn of Ibadan North East local government and there are qualified aspirants to represent the two Council area at the lower chamber.
“For instance, Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju Ajiboye Ómò Iya Èléja, Barrister Niyi Aborisade, Lukman Aminu, and the likes. Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju Ajiboye (Ómò Iya Èléja) has been a party man and a grassroot mobilizer who has touched lives and promoted our party. He is known as a philanthropist of note. We need to look at the larger picture,an aspirant that can win for our party at the general election come 2023.
“In a different point of view, we have the National Deputy Chairman from Ibadan Southeast local government who has 17 states under him, a senator from the same local government, so having the next house of Rep from Ibadan Northeast local will not be a bad idea,” Ala said.
