Oyo ADC Rep Candidate Babatunde Takes Grassroot Campaign To Communities

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East and Oyo West Federal Constituency, Busari Basit Babatunde, has continued his grassroots engagements across the constituency, meeting with community stakeholders, party members, supporters and residents during a four-day campaign trail.

The activities, which ran from Tuesday, September 15 through Friday, September 18, provided opportunities for the Busari to interact with residents and discuss issues affecting the people within the constituency. The engagements also brought him into contact with different trade associations and community groups as the party continues its preparations for the 2027 elections.

Busari said direct interaction with residents remained important to understanding the challenges confronting them, noting that “people have concerns that cannot be understood properly from an office or through reports alone. You have to come out, meet them and listen to what they are experiencing.”

His engagements also featured conversations around the difficulties facing young Nigerians, including unemployment, rising living costs and limited economic opportunities. On this, he noted that many young people were working hard to build a future for themselves but continued to face obstacles that required greater attention from those in public office.

“A lot of them are tired of being remembered only when politicians need their votes,” Busari explained, noting that, “they want to know what is happening, they want to participate and they want representatives who can give an account of what they are doing.”

Speaking on accountability in public office, Busari said residents should be able to obtain information about projects and public funds allocated to their communities.

“If money is allocated for a project in a community, the people should be able to ask how much was approved, how much was released and what was eventually delivered. We should not get to a point where residents have to depend on rumours to know what is being done in their own communities,” he said.

Busari further maintained that sustained engagement with residents would be necessary as he continues his campaign across the four local government areas that make up the constituency. He said the discussions held during the tour would help shape subsequent engagements and the issues to be prioritised.

“We still have a lot of people to meet and many issues to discuss. The work requires patience, organisation and a willingness to listen. We want to keep engaging with the people, understand their priorities and be clear about the kind of representation we are presenting to them,” he announced.
