Oyedemi: Why I Joined Oyo Central Senatorial Race

A senatorial aspirant, Barr. Wakeel Oyeleru Oyedemi, has said revealed that his desires to join politics is passion for social development and the need to provide my people with quality representation at the senate.

The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in an exclusive chat with OYO INSIGHT, added that his desire to join politics is also in recognition of the need to use his experience within and outside the country to bridge the observed gaps and to add value to nation’s legislative system.

He said that “Over the years, I keep on observing the development at The Senate and I feel strongly that if my experience could be brought to bear, my people would experience direct positive impacts of good governance.”

According to him, “we owe the country the responsibilities of making impactful contributions to socio-economic, political and technological development of Nigeria.

I am not surprised that people are defecting from one party to another because the next general election is fast approaching. More importantly, we should not forget the fact that politics is about interests and struggle for control of power .So, one needs to look at the current political development in the country holistically from both ethical and legal perspectives.”

On why he is aspiring on the platform of the APC, he said that his choice of party  was largely influenced by the party manifesto, programmes and outcome of consultations held with his people.

“I am also endeared to the party by the integrity of President Muhammed Buhari and reforms being undertaking by his administration in the last three years, the APC government indeed has demonstrated serious commitment towards revamping the economy , reform the political system and help the nation win the war against corruption.”

If he wins, he said, “Simply, my vision is to ensure the Oyo Central is provided quality representation through adequate consultations with the stakeholders and interest groups so as to afford my people unhindered access to direct positive impacts of good governance. Besides, I will initiate or facilitate where necessary development projects and empowerment programmes that would be enduring and sustainable. 

“In drawing my action plans, youths, women and other interest groups shall be given priority attention, if I am given the mandate to represent Oyo Central Senatorial District. It is also envisioned that my representation at the Senate would attract development to various communities in my Senatorial District.”
