Dear Prof. Akande,
You called me on the phone at exactly 3.14pm today and I quickly picked the call hoping that you wanted to ask questions or seek clarifications on issues relating to the ongoing party primary but it turned out to be an outpour of insults, wicked allegations and castigation which left me bewildered and embarrassed to the utmost level. Ah, Oro yen ti po ju!
Apparently, you were either misinformed or you deliberately acted out premeditated script because I don’t still understand why I deserved such a treatment from anyone (not even somebody I held in high esteem). You claimed that Hon. Azuzu had a phone conversation with me yesterday while he was at a group meeting and I was quoted as saying that the Party had settled for a particular individual (names withheld) as the consensus candidate for Oyo North Senatorial District ahead of tomorrow’s primary. You added that many people heard me as the Azuzu put his phone on speaker during the said conversation.
Also, you said that I collected bribes in hard currency for the purpose of foisting some persons on party members as candidates while you added that I was a member of an unnamed ‘cabal which destroyed the party’. It was an invectives pouring spree as you didn’t even allow me to react or say anything for the 1 minutes and 51 seconds which the phone call lasted.
For the record, I wish to state categorically that all the allegations you levelled against me were not only spurious, unfounded and false but also misdirected and laughable. I didn’t speak with Hon. Azuzu or anyone from Oke-Ogun yesterday and I couldn’t have even told anyone about a consensus candidate for Oyo North because I was (and I’m still not) aware of anything like that. Developments like this informed my decision to boycott most phone calls these days because I know how some unscrupulous elements and desperados drop names in their business of propaganda and campaign of calumny.
Meanwhile, it’s politics and I want my Party to win big in 2027. I have had to delete two different write-up which I wrote in reactions to Prof. Akande’s salvo and the simple reason for the deletion was because the pieces reflected the typical Omo’badan in me. After deep thoughts, I realized that I didn’t have to get incensed or infuriated over what the former NCC chairman did to me as a Yoruba man and somebody who have been an aspirant and a candidate… It’s not easy, walahi.
Prof. Akande, you have my two numbers with you (MTN and Glo lines) and I challenge you to use your status as a former NCC boss to obtain my call logs from these service providers with a view to ascertaining your claims. I maintain that I didn’t speak with Azuzu or any other person from your Senatorial District over who would get the APC ticket. Also, I never collected any money (bribe) be it in hard or ‘soft’ currency because it is not in my character. At least, you have known me for close to 20 years and there has been a time I got a gift or bribe from you and anyone close to you. This is an open letter and I make bold to say that I don’t collect bribes.
However, I wish you the very best as you slug it out with your co-contestants while I await rightful action from you over this particular after the conclusion of tomorrow’s because I am sure reason would prevail in the end.
Thank you and God bless.
Yours truly,
Wasiu Olawale Sadare
Egbeda LGA, Oyo State.
