Olaniyan Vs Oyo Assembly: Court Delivers Judgement July 26

Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan has fixed July 26 for delivering judgement in a matter brought before it by Raufu Olaniyan, Seyi Makinde’s deputy

This was after hearing counsels involved in the originating summons and interlocutory injunctions on the propriety of an impeachment proceedings embarked upon by the members of the Oyo State House of Assembly.

The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Oyo State House of Assembly and the Clerk, Oyo state house of Assembly are the first, second and third defendants in the matter respectively.

While Chief Afolabi Fashanu, SAN appeared for Olaniyan (claimant), Otunba Kunle Kalejaiye, SAN led the legal team of the defendants.

The court also on Wednesday rejected an application by the lawmaker representing Oorelope constituency, Lateef Adebunmi who sorted the consent of the court to be joined in the suit as the fourth co-defendant in the matter.

Also, the court earlier rejected the application for adjournment of the matter by the claimants counsel, Chief Fashanu on the ground that, the House of Assembly in obvious disregard to subsisting status quo order had directed the state Chief Judge, Justice Muntar Abimbola to set up a  investigative panel for Olaniyan.
