Ogbomoso indigenes have charged the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde and entire Oyo State indigenes and residents to join hands in tackling the security situation in the State.

The indigenes under the aegis of Ogbomoso Descendants Development Association (ODDA), said this in a press release circulated and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Aremu Olusegun Kuti.

ODDA also commended the workers of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, for their resilience over the time and called on the state government to do something in the immediate about the purported industrial action over emolument areas.

“We commend the Governor’s efforts so far in securing the State but there is room for much improvement; we also implore him and all indigenes and residents of Oyo State to stand firm until we completely rid our State of criminal elements whose activities are inimical to the development and well-being of all in the State.”, the statement says.

On the latest tensed security situation in the State, ODDA also reiterated that, security of lives and properties is a primary function of the State and when State actors are found wanting, the vaccum will definitely produce non-State actors for the purpose of self-defense.

In playing its own role as an agent in the society, the Association said it is ready to support the Government to curb insecurity in the State. “We as a an Association and a stakeholder in the affairs of our dear State, we are ready to partner with the Government to ensure peaceful existence of all and sundry throughout the State. While we sympathize with all those that have lost their loved ones, those raped, wounded, kidnapped, have their farmlands destroyed and many more, we are also soliciting for the maximum cooperation of all residents of Oyo State, particularly those of the Ogbomoso Zone, not to relent in being at alert and giving useful information to relevant security agencies and the Government.”

On the issues surrounding the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH), ODDA commended the tolerance of the university workers and plead with them to allow the Government and other stakeholders address the matter.

The workers of the institution have concluded plan to embark on a protest over the non-payment of their 8 months salary.

“Issues like this protest is one of the reasons we want the government to consolidate on LAUTECH rather than being distracted by some individuals on the multi-campus issue. We urge the State Government to therefore urgently do something to avoid industrial action,” the Association reiterates its stand on the multi-campus plan of the State for the institution,” he said.
