Senator Akanbi did not go there to sympathize with them alone but to identify with them during their challenging period and donate building materials which included 600 bags of cement and 400 pieces of iron sheets and topping it with his usual Ramadan cash gift.

In his words, Sen Akanbi tendered his unreserved apology for coming now, he attributed this numerous assignments and owing to the magnitude of the incident, he decided he must come around by himself and not delegate the visit.

“Many people have been building their businesses for decades and although properties worth millions were lost as a result of the inferno.  In all, we thank God that no life was lost. In every situation, there is always something to be grateful for” Senator Akanbi said.

The members of the market community were thankful and acknowledged the fact that Senator Akanbi has been a friend of the market even before now. The President of the market, Aare Moruf Ademola Ishola, fondly called  Ikire commended the antecedents of Senator Akanbi which is also evident in the market adding that he is not surprised at his support for them judging from his antecedents.

The former President, Alhaji Abdulazeez Ojo accentuated some of his footprints in the market which includes the Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi Foundation (RAAF) Cash Support for members of the market as well as the 100 million naira revolving free interest loan facilitated by Senator Akanbi for various cooperative societies, groups and associations in Oyo state in which one of the cooperative societies in Araromi spare parts market benefited from. He also added that, until the inferno, they still enjoyed the solar-powered street lights donated by Okanlomo.

The Baale of the market community, Baale Raheem Adegoke Ewebiyi offered heartfelt prayers for Senator Akanbi and he emphasised that they know that he is their friend, stressing that, so far, they have not seen anyone support them in this manner since the incident, all they have had has been promises; some which have been fulfilled, some have been partly fulfilled while some are yet to be fulfilled. “Sen. Akanbi is around to commiserate with us and him coming around bearing his huge support for us in kind is highly commendable, we are indeed grateful for this,” He said, while also appreciating everyone who has come to their rescue since the incident and also pleaded with others to please fulfil their promises. He further reiterated that they know that Senator Akanbi is a performer and they are hearing of his good works. “You are indeed Okanlomo” he said.

Senator Akanbi in his own words expressed his appreciation for their kind words and warm reception and also for accepting to support them with the little he has.

“Historically, this market is one of the biggest markets in Southwest Nigeria when it comes to spare parts dealing and we cannot allow its glory to diminish; rather, we contribute to its continuous growth”. Senator Akanbi said.

He further gave his words that he will do his best, God willing; to assist them in reaching out to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other high net worth individuals to contribute their quota to the rejuvenation of the market.

Senator Akanbi also used the opportunity to send his Ramadan greetings as he handed over his usual Ramadan cash gift.

“As we begin the Holy Month of Ramadan, I appeal to all Muslims to pray for our country, and indeed the whole world, to emerge from the socio-economic crises caused by the pandemic as a kinder, stronger, more united world committed to upholding the values of peace and harmony. Let us demonstrate the spirit of brotherhood during Ramadan by caring for the less privileged among us”. He said
