A Lalupon prince, Musibaudeen Oyetunde has slammed the Oyo State House of Assembly over the bill seeking to update the hierarchy of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

The Prince, in a radio interview monitored by OYOINSIGHT.COM, described the decision to remove the Onilalupon from the list of members of the Council as unacceptable.

He argued that the faulty nature of the bill is because the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin is seeking to fulfill the interest of his Ibarapa region only.

“The leaders of Ibadan consider Ibadan as a seperate town, not as a part of Ibadan. The first council of Obas and Chiefs between 1956 and 1966, the Onilalupon was a member of that council.

“But we believe that the Governor won’t allow it stand. The House of assembly should have done their findings to understand why the Onilalupon was a member of the council before removing him.

“They are talking about inclusiveness and having everywhere represented but that does not you have to erase people’s history and their priviledge.

“The immediate past Onilalupon once acted as Secretary of the Council of Obas and Chiefs. Our inclusion is not a privilege, it’s a right earned based on our status.

“The person that proposed the bill, the Speaker Debo Ogundoyin is not from Ibadan. Without any prejudice, I think he did it to advance the interest of Ibarapa zone without giving recourse to its implications for Ibadan outer cities who are being expunged from the list.

“Ibadan claims to be an empire. But that can only happen if there are smaller kingdoms under it that pay homage to it,” he explained.
