NYSC Members Laud World Bank, Oyo Govt For Providing Befitting Accommodation

Some members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Oba community in Ayete, Ibarapa North Local government area of Oyo state have commended the world bank and the Oyo state government for their intervention in the accommodation challenges facing the corps members in the area.
The Oyo State Government through its Agency, Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) in conjunction with the World Bank had provided financial support for the community to build a ten-room accommodation for the corps members.
Speaking on behalf of the corps members, Adetayo Adeyemi, Folorunso Thomas and Sidikat Queen commended the community leaders, world bank and the state government for their support towards ensuring a befitting accommodation was built for them.
According to Adetayo Adeyemi, he is comfortable with a self contain to himself despite negative stories he heard about Ayete when he was on camp especially about accommodation. “I love my privacy and I cannot compromise that. With this provision of accommodation, I don’t need to travel for weeks because I am enjoying myself here. We have a running water. We have conducive environment and there is security.”
The principal of the school where the corps members are attached, Baptist Secondary School, Ayete, Mrs Okesola Esther said the construction of copper’s lodge has contributed to the reading culture of the students.
“Before now, many of our students find it very difficult to read book while many demonstrated lack of interest in education but now that the corp members are living close to school, they teach and encourage them. In fact, they have told the management that they wanted to begin extra moral classes for the students. Hopefully, with their efforts which is now having positive impact on the students, there will be improvement in our results soon,” she said.
Earlier, the chairman, Community Project Management Committee (CPMC), Alhaji Oladele Waheed told our correspondent that schools in the community lack competent teachers and the corp members that supposed to cover up usually reject serving in the community once they arrive and discovered that there was no toilet in some of the available houses.
He said the parents discovered that many of the corp members are source of motivation and encouragement for their children, that was why they met with the management of the CDSA to sought for their financial support through the state government and the world bank.
“We met with them and they facilitated the financial support which I am the chairman of the committee that executed the projects. We provided 10percent of the total cost for the projects and they gave us the 90percent to complete the projects. The projects executed by my committee are; 10 rooms Coper’s lodge with full facilities including water project and four motorized borehole located in different areas of the community. Water was like gold in our community before now. We have to go far before we could get water but today, water is available for us.”
The Chairman community development association in the area, Elder Ayanleke Samuel Ayangbade said the situation was very tough for the corp members before the intervention to the extent that many of they prefer to travel for months.
“Before now, many of them relocate from here to town because there was no accommodations for them. Even if they get rented apartment, those apartment won’t have toilet and bathroom.
“They look for bush to defecate. Meanwhile we need them because they assist our children a lot. That was why we met with the CDSA and find a lasting solution to it. We thank the world bank and the Oyo state government for their support. We don’t mind having more of this because they normally post 50 corps members to our community and there is need to accommodate more,” he said.
