The governorship candidate of the PDP in Oyo state Engr Seyi Makinde said that lack of ideas, profligacy and insensitivity to workers’ welfare are  responsible for the unparalleled debt profile accumulated by the state government with the workers being at the receiving end.

In a statement from his campaign organization and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, he said that “the protest by the striking staff of all tertiary institutions in the state during the week is a sickening reality of the mess that Gov Ajimobi will leave behind.”

According to the release, “the workers are being owed up to 18 months salary arrears, yet Mr Bayo Adelabu, the APC candidate has been praising the achievements of this administration to high heavens.”

Makinde said that it was sad to hear government promising to pay the workers before leaving office on May 29, asking “Are you asking these workers and their families not to eat  before May 29 just because you have your own priorities which are different from workers welfare?”

He said leaders must rule with the fear of God and wondered if the Governor and his chosen ones can wait till May 29 before providing for their families.

The PDP candidate said he will not pay workers half salaries while he goes home with his full pay package as the present administration is doing.

He asked Adelabu to desist from supporting blindly everything that this administration is doing and making provocative remarks to the effect that he believes in continuity.

“Continuity to the next level of deprivation? God forbid!”

Makinde said that the month of January has exposed what the government has been trying to cover up: “that Oyo state workers rank as one of the most oppressed in the federation with the NLC and the tertiary institutions going on strike simultaneously and the retired primary school teachers going to court over  unpaid N40bn owed it by the Ajimobi government which had the effrontery to advertise. false achievements with the tax payers money.”
