It was jubilation galore last weekend in Ibadan as the Chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in Ibadan South West local government area, Dr. Kazeem Abimbola-Abogun, inaugurated seasoned politicians and eminent personalities in the society as members of his campaign council ahead of the council poll slated for April this year in the state.
The ceremony which took place at the popular Abiola Ajimobi House in Oke-Ado, Ibadan was graced by the state chairman of APC, Hon. Isaac Omodewu, some members of the Oyo APC’s State Working Committee as well as party stalwarts in Ibadan South West local government area and beyond.
Omodewu was represented by the Party’s State Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Olanite, at the occasion where a former chairman of Ibadan South West local government, Hon. Gbenga Opaleye, and former APC chairman, Prince Aderemi Oni, were sworn-in as Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the Campaign Council respectively while Hon. Wale Oriade emerged as the Secretary.
In his welcome address; the current party chairman in the council, Arch. Joseph Omoniyi, charged residents of the 12 Wards in Ibadan South West to support Hon. Abimbola-Abogun and his vice chairmanship candidate, Hon. ‘Poju Popoola as well as all the 12 Councilorship Candidates who are eyeing electoral victory in the forthcoming April, 2024 poll “in order to ensure that the lost glory of Ibadan South West local government area is brought back”.
Oyo APC Secretary, Alh. Tajudeen Olanite, in his own speech appealed to the electorate in the state to key into what he called “Operation Save Oyo LGAs from Extinction” being embarked upon by the major opposition party in the state. “Event in the last 55 months has shown that the current PDP administration is determined to destroy the third tier of government completely and the only antidote is for the good people of the state to vote all the candidates of the APC against those of the PDP on the day of the poll.”
The Chairmanship candidate who is also a US-trained medical practitioner, Dr. Abimbola, assured that he would make the council a model among the 774 in the country if elected to serve. “I have put in place a blueprint capable of turning things around for Ibadan South West local government and we will make it public very soon. I feel the best way to impart meaningfully on the lives of the generality of the people is to participate in politics and I have offered myself to serve. We shall not disappoint and we urge the voters to cast their ballot for us to enable us serve them diligently.” Dr. Abimbola said.
Among members of the campaign committees are; Alh. Sulaimon Bankole, Engr. Michael Adeoye, Dr. Olayinka Ehinlaiye, Alhaja Olateju Salami, Hon. Adeniyi Adeoti among others. Party leaders and dignitaries who graced the event included; Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, Engr. Ayo Olatunji, Mr. Moshood Bankole, Alh. Shaba, Elder Odetola (a k a 2 Naira), Mogaji Alaba Bolarinwa, Alhaja Ajenifuja and Alh. Akande.
