JUST IN: Nine Council Officials Quit In Surulere, Oriire As Oyo Resignation Wave Spreads

The wave of resignations among political appointees in Oyo State local governments has spread to Surulere and Oriire, with nine more officials, including two Chiefs of Staff, tendering their resignations on Tuesday.

The latest departures involve five officials in Surulere Local Government and four in Oriire Local Government, including a Supervisory Councillor in charge of Women Affairs.

In Surulere, those who resigned are Chief of Staff, Ogunsola Gbemiga Oluremi; Supervisory Councillor for Works, Gbadamosi Lateef; Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman on Works, Transport and Community Development, Oyewole Lukuman Ayomo; Special Adviser on Finance, Ibrahim Fatai Adesina; and another official, Adeoye Kazeem Oyediran, who identified himself as a Supervisor without specifying his portfolio.

In Oriire Local Government, the departing officials are Chief of Staff, Oladapo Bankole Olalekan; Supervisor for Works, Moshood Salawu Olarewaju; Supervisor for Human Affairs, Victoria Popoola Bola; and Supervisory Councillor for Women Affairs, Adeleke Omolola Adebumi.

The resignation letters, dated November 3, 2026, were addressed to the respective local government chairmen, with the officials indicating that their decisions took immediate effect.

Most of the appointees expressed appreciation to their respective council chairmen for the opportunity to serve, as well as the support they received during their time in office.

While some said they were grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their administrations, none of the letters disclosed a specific reason for the resignations.

The latest development follows the resignation of five appointees in Ogbomoso South Local Government on the same day, including the Chief of Staff, Assistant Secretary and three Supervisory Councillors.

With the latest batch, at least 14 local government appointees have now been identified as having resigned from their positions in Ogbomoso South, Surulere and Oriire local governments.

The simultaneous departures come amid political activities and realignments in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, the resignation letters do not establish whether the officials’ decisions were politically motivated or indicate plans to join another political party.

There was no official explanation from the affected local government administrations or the Oyo State Government as of the time of filing this report.
