A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Engr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has urged the youth of Oyo State to focus on innovative ways of solving problems around them in order to deliver economic value in our technology driven world.
He made this known during the commemoration of the UN International Youth Day. The International Youth Day is an awareness day designated by the United Nations. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.
Tegbe said the theme for this year, Safe Spaces for Youth, is in line with his vision to create an enabling environment for creativity and innovation for the youths of Oyo State.
Shedding more light on the critical role of the youths in achieving accelerated growth in Oyo State and in Nigeria, Tegbe said “In my time in the University of Ife – now Obafemi Awolowo University, – I envisaged early on, that I may be critical to the achievement of growth in my state and my country, and it was my personal responsibility to develop every skill and potential within me so I can take advantage of opportunities around me. Today, I encourage all youths of Oyo State to identify the unique value you can offer the society and hone that skill or habit so you can cultivate to help make your family, Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole proud. For those who are ready to come on board and stay the course, I assure you that there is tremendous potential here in Oyo State, and we have what it takes to achieve more.”
Tegbe highlighted the myriad of opportunities to transform various economic sectors in Oyo State, and Nigeria.
He explained that the economic liberation of Nigeria is in our entrepreneurship spirit and that the youth are increasingly showcasing their innovative and creative thinking, especially in the areas of entertainment, fashion and art.
He applauded the great work being done by the government of Governor Abiola Ajimobi and look forward to consolidating the gains for accelerated growth in not only these sectors, but also in agriculture, ICT, and education.
He stressed the importance of their responsibility to demand accountability at all levels of government.
Tegbe said, “Our country and state require visionary leaders that will create an environment for the ingenuity of youths to thrive and deliver the dividends of democracy to all. Great countries make long-term, inclusive plans that lead to the growth, development and success of the nation and Governor Ajimobi has laid the foundation for the modern Oyo State, it’s therefore important to consolidate on these gains and accelerate growth in the state. Youths are paramount in this journey, and you must, therefore, select and subsequently demand that leaders at all levels provide an enabling environment for your learning and prosperity.”
Tegbe assured youths that he is committed to playing a crucial role on this journey by developing the ICT potential in Oyo State. He stated that he will continue to pursue and advocate for policies that will help deliver the infrastructure required to implement the broadbrand blueprint he assisted in developing for Nigeria which has greatly helped internet penetration.
