I’ll Build On My First Term Achievements―Olajide Olatubosun

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olajide Olatubosun, has promised to build on the gains of his first term in office in order to achieve more in the next four years.

Olatubosun, who has just been re-elected to represent ATISBO / Saki – East/ Saki – West federal constituency, spoke with journalists in Ibadan, over the weekend.

He said that even though his first term was a bit challenging, a lot of progress was recorded as he was able to sponsor several bills and motions. He said he has been able to sponsor and move many motions and bills, disclosing that I facilitated the establishment of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, station in Saki and the construction of Okerete international Border market as a result of motions moved by me.”

On his achievements in the last four years, he said: “I facilitated the establishment of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) station in Saki and the construction of Okerete international Border market as a result of motions moved by me.

“During the incident of earth tremor in some parts of Saki, I made sure the attention of the Federal Government and most especially relevant agencies were drawn to it by bringing the issue under matter of urgent national importance. To ensure we prepare our youth to take up leadership roles in the future, I moved a motion for the inculcation of leadership principles and practice in the curriculum of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

“My Bill on the establishment of cashew business promotion agency has passed first reading and hopefully, it will make it through the second reading before the expiration of this tenure of the eight assembly.

“In terms of projects, I have facilitated the construction of network of roads in Saki .The construction of Palace road Ago – Are through the Border Community Development Agency started about two weeks ago. In addition, a Health centre is under construction at Aleniboro Community in Atisbo Local Government Area.

“I also empowered maize farmers across my constituency In terms of constituency projects, I have constructed quite a number of boreholes and built schools across the constituency. In Saki East, we have a greenhouse in Sepeteri.

“We have had a fair spread of projects across the constituency but we still have a lot of communities that have not be reached. My goal is to ensure all our communities have a fair share of projects and by God’s grace it will be achieved in my second term.”

“Through the Federal Ministry of Works, I am facilitating the reconstruction of the following roads: Iseyin – Ago-Aare – Saki – Ilesa – Ibarub; Ago – Are – Tede – Oje – Owode – Ago – Amodu – Sepeteri – Igboho – Kishi up to the border of Kwara State, and Saki to Okerete. The design of the roads are in different stages of completion.

Speaking further, the Ago-Amodu born chartered accountant explained how his private sector was positively influencing his work in public service.

“Among other professional credentials, I’m a finance expert, a chartered accountant and fellow of ICAN. In the private sector, there are barometers to measure the achievement of set goals over a period of time. The long term goal is to deliver Shareholders’ value but a lot of extraneous factor comes into play with respect to performance metrics in the public sector.

Saying that he is going to team up with other lawmakers from the state irrespective of party affiliation to make sure the federal government give attention to some monuments that can generate revenue for the state, Olatubosun noted that “Ikere Gorge dam has been driving public appeal in the media for a while now. As a matter of fact, I learnt the Federal Government is using the Public Private Partnership approach to fund the project. Since the details are still sketchy, I will limit my comments for now

The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker described his party’s loss at the Oyo State governorship and House of Assembly elections as a temporary setback.

“What we have just experienced is the manifestation of disunity. The solution is for all the party members to unite and through continuous engagement with the people of Oyo State we will gradually earn their trust again. Without doubt, the future is very bright,” he declared.
