A Call For Understanding, Reconciliation And Unity Of Purpose In Oyo APC | Matthew Oyedokun
I have read with keen interest the publication titled “Oyo APC at a Crossroads: The Struggle to Preserve Progressive Ideology Ahead of 2027.”
While the issues raised deserve thoughtful consideration, I believe this is not the time to apportion blame, reopen old wounds or identify individuals as the cause of the challenges confronting our great party. Rather, this is the time for sober reflection, mutual understanding and genuine reconciliation.
The APC in Oyo State is a family made up of men and women who have made enormous sacrifices for the growth and survival of the progressive movement. We may disagree on strategy, leadership or political choices, but we must never allow our differences to become greater than our shared commitment to the party and the development of Oyo State.
Our immediate responsibility should be to heal, unite and rebuild. Every leader, aspirant, stakeholder and ordinary party member has a place in the future of our party. Those who feel aggrieved should be given a listening ear, while those who have emerged should demonstrate humility, inclusiveness and a willingness to carry everyone along.
The lessons of our political history are clear: division weakens a political family, while unity of purpose gives it the strength to win and govern effectively. The experiences of previous elections should therefore encourage us to do things differently—not by dwelling on who was right or wrong, but by asking what we must collectively do better.
I respectfully appeal to all our leaders, governorship aspirants, party stakeholders and members to sheathe their swords and embrace a genuine process of reconciliation. Let us replace suspicion with trust, bitterness with understanding, exclusion with inclusion, and personal interests with the larger interest of the party and the people of Oyo State.
There will always be disagreements in a political organisation. What matters is our ability to manage those disagreements without destroying the house we have all laboured to build.
2027 should not be about winners and losers within APC. It should be about one united APC working together for a common political objective and a better future for Oyo State.
Let us therefore learn from the past without being imprisoned by it. Let us forgive one another, accommodate one another and work together.
The time for recrimination is over. The time for reconciliation is now. The time for unity of purpose is now.
If we genuinely desire to secure Oyo State for APC in 2027, then we must first secure APC itself through peace, justice, inclusion, mutual respect and collective responsibility.
One Party. One Family. One Purpose. One Oyo.
