Few minutes after the winners had emerged at just concluded election of the Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, a court injunction restraining them from participating in the election surfaced at the Saki, venue of the election.
The duo of Messrs Oyewo Akeem Damilare and Bogunbe Abass Adekunle had been threatened to step down for Opabunmi.
While Ojo was nowhere to be found at the Saki venue of the election, Bogunbe did not step down.
They were about to count the votes recorded by each of the three presidential candidates before the court bailiff, accompanied by policemen, arrived the venue at around few minutes before 4 pm, sources told OYOINSIGHT.COM.
However, that did not prevent them from going ahead with the counting. At the end of the counting, Bogunbe had 206, Oyewo had 71 while Opabunmi had 22 votes respectively.
In the results declared earlier, Adeyanju Teniola got 203 while Oduola Olusola got 39 for the position of women chairperson;Micheal Ajiboye 143 against Alaje Olufemi’s 88 and James Olusegun’s 44 for trusteeship position; Ojo John 228 against Ojo Sunday’s 67 for publicity secretary position; Kadiri Sulaimon’s 213 against Olaleye Samson’s 85 for deputy president position; Atilade 128 against Oyinloye’s 79, Adeoye’s 23, Oyeniyi’s 22 and Busari’s 18 for the auditor’s position while Tella polled 207 to defeat Aderibigbe for the young worker position.
At the election tagged 7th quadrennial state delegates conference, held in Saki, it was themed collective bargaining, social justice and economic recovery.
The deputy governor, Engr. Raufu Olaniyan, who earlier addressed the delegates, charged them to ensure industrial harmony and also informed them that this administration is committed to governing the state with the fear of God and will not make promises it does not intend to keep.
The outgoing NULGE president, who is now the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Mr. Bayo Titilola-Sodo was also in attendance.
A top government official who spoke to OYOINSIGHT.COM on the condition of anonymity said Governor Seyi Makinde and his deputy, Engr. Raufu Olaniyan, don’t have interest in the election except for peace to reign. Olaniyan, who spoke to this newspaper via whatsApp said that “I don’t have ANY interest on ANY of the candidates. I am equally so sure my Governor has NO pecuniary interest on ANY candidate.”
OYOINSIGHT.COM’s source explained further that “It has nothing to do with the governor. If he hears about this thing, head may roll. He is not concerned whether someone is APC or PDP; what he wants his good governance and adherence to rule of law. Anybody who wins is acceptable to him.”
