Between 17th and 20th May, 2019, council chairmen across Oyo State’s local government areas, LGAs, and local council development area, LCDAs, sworn in supervisory councilors, OYO INSIGHT has confirmed.
A top government source told this medium that the approval to inaugurate the appointees came that same Friday and some council chairmen swung into action immediately.
This came barely 13 days to the expiration of the tenure of their boss, Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
OYO INSIGHT further learnt that the appointments of council secretaries, supervisory councilors and chief of staff were backdated to February, 2019.
Only last year, the Ajimobi administration had conducted council election in the state. But rather than appoint supervisory councilors, secretaries and chiefs of staff immediately, the appointments were delayed. It was not until the All Progressives Congress, APC, lost the March 9, 2019 governorship election that Ajimobi started making appointments.
OYO INSIGHT further gathered that each of the 33 LGAs and 35 LCDAs now has 6 supervisory councilors, a secretary and CoS.
This newspaper however gathered that majority of those who had been earlier shortlisted for appointed as supervisory councilors found their names missing on inauguration day.
“Even in Ibadan South West, Ibadan North West, Akinyele and Egbeda, shortlisted appointees were replaced,” another source confirmed .
OYO INSIGHT also gathered that council chairmen earn a little over N500,000 while each councilor goes home with N108,000 monthly. The salary structure of the new appointees is yet to be known as at the time of filing this report.
“Ordinarily, the supervisory councilors are to ratify all what the council chairmen do,” the source added.
