Some judges in the Oyo State judiciary proved they are men of good conscience and impeccable characters as they rejected bid by one of the men of Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, to quicken the impeachment of his deputy, Raufu Olaniyan.

The man, a senior legal luminary, had approached the chief justice hours after the assembly asked the number one judge to accept names of panel members to be used in investigating the Igboho-born retired permanent secretary.

The judges, OYOINSIGHT.COM learnt, were going to see the new Chief Justice of Nigeria when they couldn’t see their boss.

“On getting to the office of the CJ, they saw the senior legal luminary trying to talk him into accepting a prepared list of panel members to investigate the deputy governor. Infuriated by the action, the CJ and the judges were said to have told the senior lawyer that it was not good; that a case is still ongoing and one of their colleagues has asked them to maintain status quo till it is decided. The judges were angered by the development.”

OYOINSIGHT.COM understands that Olaniyan had dragged the assembly to court after they leveled allegations against him. The allegations came few days after Olaniyan ditched the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

It would be recalled that the court had last week fixed 26th July for judgement in the case.

“The names of those who are to be members of the panel were brought by the senior lawyer and was said to have been prepared by the governor’s running mate for the 2023 elections. This attempt was rebuffed by some judges who met them while preparing the list,” another source revealed adding that the “presiding judge in Olaniyan’s case against the assembly will now deliver judgement on Thursday 14th, July 2022 instead of the earlier date of 26th July, 2022. This, we learnt, is to enable them constitute the panel on the 14th after the judgement.”
