Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu has summoned the pro-chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Mr Joshua Waklek, to a meeting in Abuja today following the inability to appoint a substantive vice-chancellor for the 72-year old premier University by Nov. 30.
OYOINSIGHT.COM had exclusively reported how alleged plan by ex-VC Idowu Olayinka to impose his deputy, Kayode Adebowale, faulted the selection process, an action which made the National Universities Commission, NUC to wade in.
On Monday, to fill the vacuum created by the inability to appoint a substantive VC, the senate elected Prof. Ayobola Ekanola to act for 6 months.
This newspaper learnt that Waklek’s invitation was contained in a letter from the NUC, directing Waklek to be in Abuja on Wednesday to come and brief the minister.
The directive which was given by Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, NUC Executive Secretary and signed by Dr Suleiman Ramon- Yusuf, Deputy Executive Secretary (Academic) and dated Nov. 27, 2020, was on the directive of the Mallam Adamu Adamu .
“The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council is also directed to attend a meeting with the Hon. Minister of Education in his office on Wednesday on Dec. 2, 2020 at 11am to brief the Hon. Minister on developments following the ministerial directives on the resolution of the Impasse” it reads.
