Industrialist Dotun Sanusi is at it again. His proposed radio station under the Ilaji broadcasting limited, Ona Ara, has been approved, alongside 158 other radio and television stations in the country.
In the list of licenses granted to companies, communities, and institutions of higher learning, released by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA and The Street Journal Limited also got approval to operate radio stations.
OYOINSIGHT.COM understands that Sanusi, who is the Otun Apesinola of Ibadan, in his bid to further develop Ibadan, had established Ilaji Hotels and Games Resort close to a decade ago. This was just as he had established International College of Arts, Science and Technology, Elebu. He also owns football clubs with affiliations with clubs in Europe.
The mogaji, who is one of the sought after Ibadan man has, at different times, brought his philanthropic gesture to the doorsteps of the needy.
Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Malam Balarabe Ilelah, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, 28 September, NAN reports.
“Following the approval granted by the president, NBC has released the list of 159 licenses granted to companies, communities, and institutions of higher learning.
“The commission was established by the NBC ACT, Cap. N11, Laws of the Federation 2004, with the mandate to regulate and control broadcasting in Nigeria.
“Today, there are a total of 625 functional broadcast stations in Nigeria,’’ Ilelah stated.
The DG said that the newly-approved licensed stations are the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro (Radio); Prospective Union of Reno People (Radio); Irawo Tuntun Community Development Organization; Smile Community Radio Initiative; Yinka Ayelek Limited.
