The lawmaker representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Peller has lamented the rate at which COVID-19 cases in Oyo State are increasing.
The lawmaker in a statement made available to OYOINSIGHT.COM lamented the number of COVID-19 cases in the state after his hometown, Iseyin, recorded 55 new cases of the novel virus in a day.
“It is quite worrisome that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Oyo State keeps increasing on a daily basis. According to the figure released by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, on his Twitter handle on Friday night, the total number of confirmed cases is now 2,497. This is scary!
“I am even more disturbed with the alarming figure coming from my constituency alone. Out of the 191 confirmed new cases, 55 are from my constituency, notwithstanding various sensitization programmes on the deadly COVID-19 pandemic being championed by governments, different groups, agencies, and individuals including myself. This is quite disturbing,” Peller wrote.
He noted that it is important for people to know that the battle against COVID-19 can only be won if everyone plays their respective roles “especially as it concerns maintaining social distancing and adhering strictly to all the laid down precautionary measures of the governments and health organizations.”
“With the increasing number of confirmed cases in Oyo state and Nigeria at large, it is obvious that the war against COVID-19 is far from being over yet, and the earlier we all take this into cognizance in our dealings and activities, the better it will be for us.
“May God heal our land and the world of COVID-19 and other life-threatening diseases soon,” he added.
