The President-elect of The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Mr Bayo Olugbemi has rallied the political class, corporate organizations and privileged individuals to do more for the poor with a view to alleviating the socioeconomic effects of the Coronavirus pandemic in the society.
In a statement signed by his personal assistant, Titilolu, the Ibadan born financial and business development expert regretted that COVID-19 caught many nations unawares as its spread signalled a grave danger for the socio-economic and political wellbeing of the whole world particularly the developing countries such as Nigeria.
“To say that COVID-19 has come to aggravate suffering in this part of the world is an understatement. In the last three months, the population of people who live below poverty line has increased astronomically as more citizens now find it extremely difficult to feed themselves. It is on this premise that we need to encourage governments at all levels to come to the aid of the people in terms of provision of economic palliative.
“Apart from intervention from the government, there are other category of organizations, groups and individuals who must act swiftly to save a good population of our people from the pang of hunger and deprivation. This is an auspicious time for the active players in the organized private sector to redouble efforts on corporate social responsibility to capture partnering governments and others in reaching out to the masses.
“It is worthy of note that Mr Bayo Olugbemi, who is the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of First Registrars and Investor Services Limited, recently donated an unspecified amount of money in support of Oyo State Government’s fight against the scourge of the COVID-19. This was in addition to the sharing of various sum of money and multi million naira relief materials to thousands of needy and vulnerable out of deep concern for them.
Bayo Olugbemi, the immediate Past President/Chairman of Governing Council of the Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR) is also a seasoned motivational/inspirational speaker as well as a Minister of God, who has been in the forefront of advocacy and public sensitization against the scourge of the Coronavirus pandemic. He is a former President of the foremost Jericho Business Club of Ibadan.
