“The candidate of Zenith Labour Party( ZLP), Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal constituency, Otunba Rotimi Ajanaku is currently being detained at Apata police station. Ajanaku had gone to the station on the invitation of the police.

“The police arrest of Ajanaku is against a subsisting order restraining police or other security operatives from doing anything capable of affecting or jeopardising his personal liberty and freedom of movement as enshrined under section 34, 35, 36 and 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“It will be recalled that there was a pending court case involving a member of Ajanaku’s team which has been adjourned till March 26, 2019.

This is just as he alleged that “However, Ajanaku’s closest rival in the contest and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Saheed Fijabi had boasted on a radio interview that he would use his might to get Ajanaku incarcerated. The ruling APC-led state government has removed and destroyed Ajanaku’s billboards and posters at the strategic locations in the state.

He also alleged that “Chief Akinade- Fijabi, the father of the lawmaker was quoted at a public function that Ajanaku is the only threat to his son’s third term bid in the constituency. He vowed to get rid of Rotimi Ajanaku at all costs.

“It is now apparent that Ajanaku’s arrest is not unconnected with the state government on one hand and Fijabi on the other side.

“Now, the question is that, is judiciary still the hope of a common man? The outcome of this tyranny and oppression will provide the answer.”

Speaking with Hon. Saheed Ajibade-Fijabi, he denied knowing anything about Ajanaku’s ordeal.

“While I am telling you that I don’t know anything about his ordeal, why are others who I am contesting with not talking about it? He should not use me to gain cheap political popularity.
